Interview to win
Relax Relax Relax-- Sure-- Easy for me to say..Interview
to get the offer. It's only your livelihood and a place
where you will spend several years. Just kidding.
Admittedly, interviewing can be one of the most anxiety
producing experiences of your carreer... IF you let it.
Keep in mind that the people you meet will more than likely
have some of the same anxieties you do. Remember the old
saying that stresses to picture the other person in their
underwear.. Well, if they are doing the
same, then everyone should be very relaxed. Got you to
lighten up didn't I. Have a sense of humor about it too.
Obviously during the interview, you will want to convey your
competency,flexibility,work ethic attitude,ability to be a
team player, good bedside manners, and a host of other
common sense elements that we make sure you are equipped
with to get you an offer. Which brings me to my next point.
If you walk away from the interview thinking you WILL get
the offer and your gut feeling tells you so, you have
accomplished your goal. Must you accept it? NO... But its
nice to know if you wanted to,it is there and may even put
you in a good position to negotiate. We will discuss
negotiating at a later time.
Lets first touch on some important points:
Usually before the interview, you will have a phone
conversation with somebody from the facility. Remember,
this is your gateway in.This conversation will invariably
set the tone for your visit.
Certainly it is important to get a job description and what
your role will be in it BUT at this point it is important
to not discuss salaries, bonuses, sign ons etc...It is most
important to convey in the telephone conversation that the
most important aspect of the job is to feel comfortable
with the people you will be working with and to make sure
that you are a good fit because the first job you take will
hopefully be the last job you take.(and hopefully that is
true)
The financials can always come later.Talk about putting
yourself in your best light.....This will do it.
Please dress appropriately. You are a physician AND a
business person.Your dress code should exemplify this.A
nice crisp orange(just kidding:please dont wear orange)
business suit along with polished dress shoes will suffice.
We also recommend if you can, to have a second suit with
you in case you will be dining that evening and for woman
to also have a second change of clothes.(You would not
believe of some of the horror stories we hear from our
clients concerning clothing)One of our clients told us of
a female physician coming dressed with a tight leather mini
skirt and vest, high heels and a Harley Davidson Cap.. To her
credit, she matched really well but she did not get the
offer and the staff is still speaking about her.
Remember your body language.
Leaning forward expresses your attentiveness. Look at the
person speaking straight in the eyes(obviously without
staring). Also a nice firm handshake does wonders.(please
do not crush their hands).
Do your homework on the opportunity.
This is also where we come into play.We pride ourselves on
getting as much information as we can about the group.
Likes and dislikes,personality matches, qualifications,
hobbies etc... Of course be youself but it never hurts to
shmooze a little bit.
Be prepared to answer several questions. Call or email
us and we will discuss that with you. If you did a good
job, you will walk away from the interview feeling good and
will get the offer on good terms.Remember.Interview to get
the offer. This is a free service to candidates.
